10g as install performance issues.
I had a detailed analysis done on the prerequisite AIX patches and got them applied on the server and started off on the install.
The install went absolutely smooth, the instance was released for development. Eventually, the instance was reported with severe performance issues. the BPEL console would just not get published. We bypassed proxy on the browser and the console got published after a wait of almost 8 mins.
Later we also realized that the bounce process would take up to 15 mins. We started a series of analysis for the resolution of this issue.
After a long search we hit one note that was not found in the install document.
Metalink Note:416436.1 (Startup OMS: AIX emctl start oms and opmnctl startall take a long time) This was for a different version of the application server but we realized that this could be the reason for our concern.
Our environments missed the "hosts=bind4,local" setting in the /etc/netsvc.conf file.
We then realized that the issue was actually because HostName lookup was causing a JVM hang and there by a slow response
The parameter introduced would indicate that lookup would be done first at local host and thereby the response time was improved drasticly.
The client was quite happy with the resolution!!!!
